Gladbach vs Bayern Munich – Bundesliga: TV channel, team news, lineups & prediction

Business

Bayern Munich will look to extend their perfect start to the new Bundesliga season when they travel to Borussia Monchengladbach for Saturday’s late game.

The Bavarians cruised to a 3-1 win over Augsburg at the Allianz Arena last weekend, as Harry Kane built on his opening day of the season strike against Werder Bremen to net a brace of goals in front of the home faithful.

Gladbach’s start to the season has been chaotic to say the least, and they have just a single point to show from their first two games.

Here’s 90min’s preview of their clash at Borussia-Park.

Gladbach’s squad is looking fairly depleted because of illness and injury, leaving Gerardo Seoane a bit of a selection headache.

Manu Kone, Luca Netz, Hannes Wolf and Christoph Kramer are carrying various knocks and muscle problems, with Nico Elvedi also absent. Max Wober and Joseph Scally have colds, with their ability to play still to be determined, and Stefan Lainer is a long-term absentee.

Gladbach predicted lineup vs Bayern Munich (4-2-3-1): Omlin; Scally, Itakura, Friedrich, Wober; Weigl, Neuhaus; Honorat, Plea, Ngoumou, Cvancara

Thomas Tuchel has a couple of injury problems to contend with but will still be able to field a near-full strength side.

Jamal Musiala has a hamstring injury that is likely to sideline him until the end of September, while summer arrival from rivals Borussia Dortmund, Raphael Guerreiro, has a calf problem. Borna Sosa is also nursing a knock and is unlikely to feature.

There will also be no Benjamin Pavard after he completed a move to Inter and it remains to be seen whether Ryan Gravenberch will still be at the club post-transfer deadline.

Bayern Munich predicted lineup vs Gladbach (4-2-3-1): Peretz; Mazraoui, Upamecano, Kim, Davies; Kimmich, Goretzka; Gnabry, Sane, Coman, Kane

If you’re not overly familiar with the Bundesliga, you may be surprised to learn that Gladbach are Bayern’s bogey team in recent years.

The Bavarians haven’t won in their last six meetings, with that run of rotten results including a 5-0 thumping in the DFB Pokal back in October 2021, and their last win away at Borussia-Park came back in March 2019 – a resounding 5-1 that saw Robert Lewandowski bag a brace.

But you struggle to overlook Gladbach’s inauspicious start to the 2023/24 campaign when you compare it to Bayern’s serene progress. Gladbach have conceded seven goals already – drawing 4-4 on the first day with Augsburg before being stuffed by Bayer Leverkusen – and Bayern have a firing Harry Kane in their ranks.

It should be a close game, but Bayern’s time to end the hoodoo may be now.

Prediction: Gladbach 1-2 Bayern Munich
