Manchester United will look to derail rivals Manchester City’s treble bid and protect their 1999 legacy when they square off in the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday.

The Red Devils have ended Erik ten Hag’s debut season in England strongly, finishing third in the Premier League with a chance to add to the Carabao Cup they won earlier this season.

Here’s the side United may deploy in the hope of disrupting City’s dreams of grandeur.

GK: David de Gea – This season’s Premier League Golden Glove winner has also received the backing of his manager to be United’s first choice goalie next season.

RB: Diogo Dalot – Has been rewarded for some fiery performances in attack and defence with a new five-year contract.

CB: Raphael Varane – Without prime partner Lisandro Martinez but his big game experience in previous finals with Real Madrid and France will undoubtedly come in handy.

CB: Victor Lindelof – Has performed well enough in central defence to allow Luke Shaw to revert back to left-back and keep Harry Maguire on the bench.

LB: Luke Shaw – One of United’s best players this season, taking on every role given to him and excelling most of the time.

CM: Casemiro – Was a goalscorer in the 2-0 Carabao Cup final win over Newcastle in February and will want another one here.

CM: Fred – The Brazilian’s dynamism out of possession might see him start ahead of Christian Eriksen.

RW: Jadon Sancho – Antony’s injury has helped Sancho get more minutes at the end of the campaign, picking up a goal and an assist in his last two games.

AM: Bruno Fernandes – Created the most chances of any Manchester United player (119) in a single Premier League season since data recording began in 2003/04, resulting in eight assists.

LW: Alejandro Garnacho – If Antony isn’t fit, Garnacho could get the nod in attack with Anthony Martial also absent.

ST: Marcus Rashford – There’s a chance Ten Hag deploys Wout Weghorst up front with Rashford out wide, but the England international is United’s biggest goal threat and could hurt City on the break like he has in the past.
