Brentford 1-1 Wolves: Costa sees red as Bees held to draw
Brentford and Wolves shared the points in a bad-tempered affair at the Gtech Community Stadium which saw Diego Costa sent off for the visitors.
Both sides came into this fixture looking for a win, with Brentford still smarting from their 4-0 defeat to Aston Villa last weekend.
Wolves, meanwhile, had failed to win either of their last two games and began the day in the relegation zone.
Brentford dominated possession but failed to take advantage, registering just three shots on target throughout the match.
But it was the Bees who struck first shortly after half-time, when defender Ben Mee met Bryan Mbeumo’s cross with an emphatic volley that left Jose Sa stranded.
Moments later, parity was restored when Wolves captain Ruben Neves swept the ball into the far corner from the edge of the box.
The game looked to be petering out, but there was time for some late drama as Brazilian striker Costa saw red for headbutting Mee.
The incident went unnoticed at first, but was picked up on by VAR, leaving the referee with no choice but to give the veteran forward his marching orders.
The result sees Brentford move up to 11th in the Premier League table, while Wolves remain stranded in 19th.
