Wolves welcome Newcastle to Molineux on Saturday afternoon looking to kick on from last Sunday’s narrow win at Southampton.

Bruno Lage has won two of his six games in charge – losing the other four – and has seen his side score just three Premier League goals. But last weekend’s win at St Mary’s was a step in the right direction, wrapped up a first goal back for Raul Jimenez.

Newcastle are again struggling under Steve Bruce, and are yet to pick up a win this season despite the blistering recent form of Allan Saint-Maximin. He’ll be their biggest threat again as the Magpies look to pull away from the relegation zone, where a win would relieve some of the pressure on the shoulders of Bruce.

Wolves are without long-term absentees Pedro Neto and Jonny Otto, but they should be able to welcome Rayan Ait-Nouri back into the fold after he participated in a full week’s training.

Raul Jimenez, buoyed by scoring his first Premier League goal since his devastating head injury against Arsenal, will lead the line, and could again be supported by Hwang Hee-chan.

Adama Traore is also pushing for a recall.

Newcastle still have a number of key players sidelined, including last season’s top scorer Callum Wilson and captain Jamaal Lascelles.

Martin Dubravka, Paul Dummett, Jonjo Shelvey and Freddie Woodman are also missing, but there’s better news for Steve Bruce regarding summer signing Joe Willock. He should be available after pushing through the pain barrier last weekend at Watford unscathed.

Form isn’t really a word you can associate with either side.

Both teams have match winners capable of individual brilliance, though you’d argue that Wolves have more of those available than Newcastle. But a dismal home record of three defeats from three, coupled with zero goals scored doesn’t make for pretty reading.

The Magpies are yet to register a win but are always dangerous on the counter because of the threat posed by Saint-Maximin. Will it be enough to get the Toon over the line against a team bereft of confidence in front of their own support? Still possibly not…
