Man City predicted lineup vs Liverpool – Premier League
Manchester City will look to make a real statement in the defence of their Premier League title when they face Liverpool on Sunday.
Pep Guardiola’s side have the best defensive record in the division so far, but that couldn’t stop them from falling to a 2-0 defeat to PSG in midweek, so Guardiola will be looking to right those wrongs and get City firing once again.
There are no fresh injury issues to contend with, so here’s how Guardiola could set his side up.
Ederson (GK) – It’s the battle of the Brazilian goalkeepers, with Ederson looking for a statement performance opposite Liverpool’s Alisson.
Kyle Walker (RB) – A key part of City’s defensive dominance thus far, Walker is a guaranteed starter here.
Ruben Dias (CB) – Dias has been City’s captain in recent weeks and will hope to retain that honour here.
Aymeric Laporte (CB) – John Stones is still waiting for his first minutes of the season, and that’s entirely down to Laporte’s excellent form.
Joao Cancelo (LB) – Oleksandr Zinchenko remains out injured, but he was never going to start ahead of the outstanding Cancelo anyway.
Rodri (DM) – A firm favourite of Guardiola’s, Rodri is among the first names on the team sheet these days.
Phil Foden (CM) – Foden was dropped to the bench against PSG but can expect to return to the starting lineup here.
Bernardo Silva (CM) – His link-up with Cancelo has been phenomenal already this season and they’ll be keen to combine again against Liverpool’s vulnerable right side.
Gabriel Jesus (RW) – He might be City’s only recognised striker, but Jesus has been excellent on the right wing and can expect to return to the starting lineup here.
Kevin De Bruyne (ST) – Taking the false nine role this week could be De Bruyne, who seems to have more success than most when pushed further forward.
Jack Grealish (LW) – He might have struggled against PSG but Grealish will likely keep his spot in the starting lineup for this one.
