PSG vs Montpellier – Ligue 1: TV channel, team news, lineups and prediction

Business

Matchday 11 in Ligue 1 kicks off on Friday night with perennial champions Paris Saint-Germain hosting mid-table Montpellier.

While PSG have made a bright start under new manager Luis Enrique, the early signs suggest they might have a couple of competitors for their Ligue 1 crown. Nice currently top the table through ten games, while Monaco and Lille have each impressed at the start of 2023/24.

After succumbing at home to Nice in mid-September, PSG have enjoyed a five-game unbeaten run in Ligue 1 and head into Friday’s game having won a topsy-turvy encounter in Brest.

Montpellier, meanwhile, have had an up-and-down start to the campaign, but they’ll be emboldened by their emphatic triumph over Toulouse last weekend.

Here’s 90min’s preview of PSG’s upcoming Ligue 1 bout.

Marquinhos is the latest star to be added to PSG’s injury list. The club captain is expected to miss much of November with a groin issue. Fellow defender Presnel Kimpembe has returned to training following a lengthy absence, but it remains to be seen when he’ll be reintegrated into the matchday squad.

Layvin Kurzawa is a doubt due to illness, while Keylor Navas and Marco Asensio are likely to be absent.

Sergio Rico and Nuno Mendes won’t return to action until the new year.

PSG predicted lineup vs Montpellier (4-3-3): Donnarumma; Mukiele, Skriniar, Danilo, Hernandez; Ugarte, Zaire-Emery, Vitinha; Dembele, Kolo-Muani, Mbappe.

Montpellier’s injury list isn’t anywhere near as extensive as PSG’s and we could see the visitors deploy the same starting XI from last weekend’s impressive 3-0 victory over Toulouse.

Becir Omeragic and Arnaud Nordin are both sidelined for Friday’s visit to the French capital, but the pair are expected to return before the international break.

Montpellier predicted lineup vs PSG (4-2-3-1): Lecomte; Sacko, Kouyate, Esteve, Sylla; Chotard, Ferri; Al-Taamari, Savanier, Fayad; Adams.

While Enrique might have an eye on the upcoming trip to Milan, PSG should have no issues brushing aside Montpellier on Friday night.

Despite surrendering a two-goal lead at Brest last weekend, PSG’s performances in recent weeks have been impressive. They’re starting to look like a typical Luis Enrique-led outfit and teams will begin to dread their trips to the capital given the control Les Parisiens can exude.

Marquinhos‘ absence undoubtedly weakens them at the back, but this purring PSG attack could have a field day.

Prediction: PSG 3-1 Montpellier
