Premier League fixtures today – your guide to Sunday’s games
The first ‚Super Sunday‘ of October represents a sparse offering for Premier League fans.
Just one fixture in the English men’s top flight is scheduled this weekend. Although, football fans can revel in the highly anticipated return of the Women’s Super League after England’s run to the World Cup final in August.
Here’s everything you need to know about the lone Premier League fixture sandwiched in the middle of a Sunday that is still very much stuffed with sport.
The mysterious Premier League fixture generator could not be reached for questioning at this time. Sky Sports haven’t been entirely forthcoming with an explanation either but there is a pattern behind the curious Premier League scheduling.
Only one game from the WSL’s return will be broadcast on Sky this Sunday, with most of the weekend’s coverage diverted towards the climax of the Ryder Cup in Rome.
Across each of the previous four editions of Sky’s flagship golf tournament that have been held in Europe, there has never been more than one Premier League game held on the Ryder Cup’s final day. No ‚Big Six‘ team has been involved in these matches as Sky desperately try to steer eyeballs away from the football pitches to the putting greens.
Nottingham Forest’s City Ground will be the epicentre of all the Premier League action this Sunday as Brentford travel to the banks of the River Trent searching for the club’s first victory since August.
Brentford boss Thomas Frank assured fans – and perhaps himself – that „we’ll be fine“ if the club continue to replicate their recent performances. However, doubts are bound to creep in after the recent run of results on the road; the Bees have not scored a goal or earned a point outside of London since a 3-3 thriller on the south coast against Brighton in April.
Forest’s formidable home ground has not been a welcoming venue for any visitor in recent months. In a run stretching back to October 2022, Forest have lost just two of the previous 17 Premier League games in front of their own fervent supporters.
Whether Brentford can overcome their weakness beyond the confines of the M25 will surely make for compelling viewing – at least for those not distracted by Europe’s attempts to avoid a humiliating capitulation against Team USA in Rome.
