Southampton and Liverpool bring respective disappointing campaigns to an end on Sunday when they meet at St Mary’s Stadium.

The Saints were relegated from the Premier League in mid May and will finish rock bottom of the table, while Jurgen Klopp’s Reds will have to make do with fifth place and a spot in next season’s Europa League.

Here’s how the two sides are shaping up ahead of their melancholy summer holidays.

Tino Livramento managed a substitute appearance from the bench in the defeat at Brighton, but the departing Ruben Selles may elect against rushing him back with an unnecessary start after such a long time out.

Che Adams‘ participation is in doubt due to injury, while a number of Saints talents could be making their last appearances for the club as other sides look to pick off relegated players in the summer transfer window.

(4-2-3-1): McCarthy; Bree, Bednarek, Lyanco, Walker-Peters; Ward-Prowse, Lavia; Walcott, Alcaraz, Elyounoussi; Aribo.

Naby Keita is injured and will leave Liverpool in the summer, while fellow midfielders Thiago and Stefan Bajcetic are also out of action.

Ibrahima Konate has been ill and Andy Robertson has a groin problem which could prod Klopp into some rotation. Departing heroes like Roberto Firmino and James Milner will also hope for final appearances for the Merseysiders.

(4-3-3): Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Matip, Van Dijk, Tsimikas; Henderson, Fabinho, Jones; Salah, Firmino, Diaz.

Southampton are truly leaving the Premier League with a limp, having lost their last five games on the bounce. They haven’t won a match since early March and a summer of great change is on the horizon on the south coast.

Their poor performances of late will give Liverpool plenty of encouragement. The Reds have had their Champions League hopes quashed despite a stellar run of form and will be looking to dish out some frustration as evidenced by Mohamed Salah’s disappointment at Europa League qualification.

Things might get ugly at St Mary’s.

Prediction: Southampton 0-3 Liverpool
