The 2023/24 UEFA Champions League will see the best teams in Europe fight it out to be crowned the most dominant club in the land.

Sleeping giants have risen in 2022/23 with a number of teams enjoying resurgences to book their spots in next season’s competition, while the usual heavy-hitters like Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester City will once again be among the top sides to beat.

Here’s the state of play right now for the 2023/24 Champions League, including teams who have already qualified and the pots they can expect to be in once the draw rolls around.

The Champions League and Europa League winners are placed into Pot 1 alongside the league champions of the top six associations based off 2022 UEFA country coefficients. With a number of league placings still to be determined before the end of the 2022/23 season, pots still aren’t finalised.

Manchester City, Barcelona and Napoli are the only teams in that criteria to have won the league title already, with the Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and Primeira Ligue races still to be decided.

Arsenal and Newcastle will join City as representatives from the Premier League, with Manchester United soon to officially book their spot.

Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have taken the title race to the final day in Germany with the latter two points ahead. Both will be in the UCL next season, with RB Leizpig and either Union Berlin or Freiburg joining them.

Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid have sealed qualification spots in Spain, while Juventus‘ point deduction has helped Lazio secure a place in Italy. Paris Saint-Germain are on the verge of wrapping up the Ligue 1 title. Lens look set to take the second group stage qualification place in France, with Marseille currently third which comes with a third qualifying round entry.

Portuguese sides Porto and Benfica, Austrian champions Red Bull Salzburg, Eredivisie winners Feyenoord, Scottish giants Celtic and Serbian team Crvena zvezda have all booked their spots

2023/24 Champions League confirmed play-off teams

No sides have yet been confirmed for the 2023/24 Champions League play-off round.

12 teams play in this round. Eight sides come from the Champions Path – two of which will be the champions of the Belgian and Ukrainian leagues – and six winners from the third qualifying round. Four winners from the third qualifying round enter the League Path.

The seeding for both paths are yet to be confirmed.

The draw for the 2023/24 Champions League group stage will take place on 31 August 2023. The 32 teams are seeded into four pots and then picked randomly in eight different groups. It will be available to watch on UEFA’s website and their social media platforms.

No two teams from the same country can be drawn together in the group stage.
