Man Utd vs Barcelona – Europa League: TV channel, team news, lineups & prediction

Business

Manchester United and Barcelona meet on Thursday for the second time this month to determine which club will progress to the last 16 of the Europa League.

Having played out a fantastic 2-2 draw at Camp Nou in the first leg, the tie is delicately poised ahead of the second, with these two still among the most in-form sides in Europe at the moment.

Each won in their respective domestic league at the weekend, with Erik ten Hag’s United thrashing Leicester in the Premier League and Xavi’s Barcelona overcoming Cadiz in La Liga.

Whoever makes it into the next round will be the favourites to lift the trophy.

Man Utd team news

Lisandro Martinez is available after missing the first leg through suspension in what promises to be a huge boost at the back. Marcel Sabitzer is also back for the same reason but may not start, while Casemiro returns after serving the last game of a domestic ban against Leicester at the weekend.

Antony, Anthony Martial and Harry Maguire are doubts, with Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek long-term absentees and definitely ruled out.

Ten Hag reshuffled his attacking unit for the first leg, including utilising Wout Weghorst as a ’number 10′, to counteract Barcelona’s strengths and create more space. He could do so again.

Man Utd predicted lineup (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Dalot, Martinez, Varane, Shaw; Casemiro, Fred; Fernandes, Weghorst, Sancho; Rashford.

Barcelona team news

Club captain Sergio Busquets was back on the bench for the win over Cadiz after missing two games with an ankle injury. But Pedri picked up an injury in the first leg, while Gavi is suspended.

Ousmane Dembele also remans sidelined with a hamstring problem.

Barcelona predicted lineup (4-3-3): Ter Stegen; Araujo, Kounde, Christensen, Alba; Kessie, Busquets, De Jong; Raphinha, Lewandowski, Fati.

The fact that United managed to come away from Camp Nou on level terms, having scored twice against a Barcelona defence that has been close to impregnable in La Liga this season, gives them the upper hand to go on and win the tie at Old Trafford.

Away goals no longer count for anything extra in UEFA competition. But with Marcus Rashford arguably the best player in the world on current form and Lisandro Martinez returning at the back, United should have enough about them to beat Barcelona for the first time since 2008.

Prediction: Man Utd 2-1 Barcelona
