Barcelona are shifting their focus from new signings to contract negotiations with its talented young core at the turn of the year.

La Blaugrana have been exceptionally active in recent transfer windows, signing 13 players in the last two seasons alone – including big ticket players such as Robert Lewandowski and Jules Kounde – but have also brought a number of talented players through their youth ranks too.

According to Mundo Deportivo, their young stars are going to be the focus in the immediate future, with Gavi, Ronald Araujo, Alejandro Balde and Inaki Pena all set to be rewarded with new contracts.

Gavi – star of Spain’s thumping World Cup win over Costa Rica on Wednesday – and Araujo have already put pen to paper on new contracts in recent months, but La Blaugrana have been unable to register said new contracts due to their difficulties in coming under the La Liga FFP threshold.

Balde and Pena, meanwhile, are in advanced talks over new contracts at the club.

In order to register new contracts, Mundo Deportivo report that the Catalan club must find an agreement over the mutual termination of outcast Memphis Depay’s contract, while it is also possible that Hector Bellerin is sold in January – despite only signing for the club in the summer.

The club are also assessing options regarding a shirt sleeve sponsor to raise additional funds, with Cupra keen to take the kit real estate.
