The Continental Cup kicks off this weekend, with Reading attempting to secure their first win of the 2022/23 campaign as they welcome Tottenham.

The Royals have suffered a pair of defeats in their first two WSL outings – and have been hard done by refereeing decisions on both occasions – and welcome a Tottenham side who were beaten 4-0 by north London rivals Arsenal last time out.

The top flight pair are in a Continental Cup group with Championship outfits Southampton and Coventry, who both meet on Sunday.

When is kick off? Sunday 2 October, 14:00 (BST)
Where is the match being played? Madejski Stadium
TV channel/live stream? FA Player (UK & international)
Referee? Amy Fearn

Canada international is out for the long-term after suffering a ruptured Achilles earlier this month. Diane Caldwell may not start after coming off at half-time against Brighton last time out, while Charlie Welling could be rewarded after scoring off the bench in that one.

Rosella Ayane remains sidelined for Spurs due to a foot fracture. Kit Graham is also a long-term absentee as she continues her recovery from an ACL injury suffered last November.

Reading (3-4-3): Moloney; Cooper, Mitchell, Evans; Eikeland, Troelsgaard, Rowe, Woodham; Wellings, Dowie, Wade

Tottenham (3-4-3): Korpela; Turner, Bartrip, Zadorsky; Ale, James, Spence, Neville; Naz, Brazil, Bizet

Reading have endured rotten luck in their opening two matches, not getting the rub of the green with refereeing decisions at key stages of their defeats to both Manchester United and Brighton. The Royals will be keen to get a first win of the season under their belts.

Spurs are yet to hit the heights of last season in their first two WSL matches this term, but should have enough quality to edge past Reading.

Prediction: Reading 1-2 Tottenham
