Jadon Sancho became the youngest player ever to record 50 Bundesliga assists on Saturday, as he almost single-handedly dragged Borussia Dortmund to victory against Arminia Bielefeld.

The 20-year-old endured something of a frustrating start to the season, with the months of speculation surrounding his possible future at Manchester United seemingly having an adverse impact on his performances.

Having waited 11 games to open his Bundesliga account for the season, the England international finally notched his first goal of the season in January and since then he’s been in scintillating form.

In his last ten league outings, Sancho has twelve goal contributions to his name – six goals and six assists – and he brought up a memorable milestone in Dortmund’s 3-0 win over Arminia Bielefeld on Saturday.

With Edin Terzic’s side struggling to break down Bielefeld’s rigid backline, Sancho’s pass enabled teammate Mahmoud Dahoud to slot home and finally hand the home side the lead.

Not only was the assist the 50th of Sancho’s Bundesliga career, he became the youngest player ever to reach the mark in the German top flight. He has achieved the figure in just 99 Bundesliga games, meaning he’s notched better than an assist in every other game since moving to the club in 2017.

Not content with his work for the afternoon, Sancho converted from the penalty spot ten minutes later to take his goal tally up to 11 for the season in all competitions.

Reinier Jesus Carvalho, the on loan Real Madrid wonder boy that many have forgotten about, completed the scoring with ten minutes of the game remaining, as Der BVB ran out comfortable 3-0 winners – continuing their quest for a place in the Bundesliga’s top four.

Fourth placed Eintracht Frankfurt’s defeat to Werder Bremen on Friday night means Dortmund are now just three points behind them in the race for Champions League qualification, something that is surely an absolute must to have any chance of keeping Sancho, and teammate Erling Haaland, at the club beyond this summer.
