Lautaro Martinez provides update on his Inter future
Lautaro Martinez has distanced himself from rumours he could leave Inter this summer, insisting he intends to remain at the club ‚for a long time‘.
The Argentina international has been in scintillating form this campaign, notching 13 goals in 23 Serie A outings and forming a lethal partnership with Romelu Lukaku.
The frontman’s stellar displays have alerted the attention of some of Europe’s biggest clubs, with Manchester City and Barcelona both credited with an interest in the 23-year-old.
However, with the Nerazzurri the favourites to win their first scudetto in over a decade, Martinez has refuted suggestions he could be on his way out the club, adding that he expects to extend his deal at San Siro in the not too distant future.
„I’m not leaving Inter in the summer. I’m going to extend the contract soon and my plan is to stay here for a long time,“ he told Gazetta dello Sport.
„I don’t know when there will be an official announcement. Meanwhile I play. I like everything about this city. The food, the fans, the team. I only have positive feelings.“
Martinez spoke openly about the interest that has surrounded him in recent times, with Barcelona particularly keen on securing his services – though he assured fans he’s not interested in courting any potential suitors.
„Yes, Barcelona wanted me one year ago… and that was my way,“ he added. „But I said to Antonio Conte ‚don’t worry, I’m focused on Inter plans‘. And now Barca for me is only the past, I will stay at Inter.“
Inter host Genoa on Sunday as they look to solidify their place at the top of Serie A. Conte’s men are currently four points clear of city rivals AC Milan, having recently beat the Rossoneri in the Derby della Madonnina.
