Barcelona presidential candidate launches attack on ‚VARentino‘ Perez

Barcelona presidential candidate Toni Freixa has hilariously labelled Real Madrid counterpart Florentino Perez, ‚VARentino‘ in his latest batch of campaign posters.

The race for the presidency at the Camp Nou has reached its final stages, with the pool of candidates in the running to succeed Josep Maria Bartomeu now whittled down to three from the initial nine that had put forward their names.

Victor Font, Joan Laporta and Freixa are the three in question, and the latter has pulled no punches of late in his push to secure one of the hottest seats in town.

After weeks of digging at fellow candidate Laporta, Freixa has gone on the offensive against Real Madrid president Perez, with a slogan aimed at getting under the skin of his adversary – who he feels has a little too much authority in Spain.

‚I will not allow VARentino to control La Liga‘ is what Freixa has promised Barcelona’s supporters, after weeks of openly questioning the level of officiating in Span’s top-flight during radio appearances with COPE.

Rather than trying to control what his adversary is doing, Freixa may be better off trying to get his own house in order should he be elected. Barcelona are five points behind La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid having played a game more, and are still feeling the repercussions of Lionel Messi’s falling out with the club last summer.

Throw into the mix that Barcelona got spanked 4-1 on their own patch by PSG in the Champions League and are in crippling debt, and you realise things aren’t very rosey at all in Catalunya.

Freixa has claimed he has agreements in place that would see two ‚top players‘ join the club if he is successful in the election, and has announced he plans to sell 49% of Barça Corporate for €250m in order to fund the deals. The election takes place on March 7.
