The Manchester City lineup that should start against West Ham
Manchester City look to make it 20 wins in a row in all competitions when they face West Ham in the Premier League’s lunchtime kick off on Saturday.
The Cityzens won 2-0 at Borussia Moenchengladbach in the Champions League midweek to make it 13 clean sheets during this extraordinary run, and they currently sit ten points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
Pep Guardiola’s squad is now getting back to full strength too after a period of injuries and COVID-19 related absences, so what team should Guardiola go with to ensure the best chance of three points against an in-form West Ham side? Here’s 90min’s picks.
Ederson (GK) – The Brazilian is first choice and has the most clean sheets in the Premier League this season. A dead cert between the sticks.
Joao Cancelo (RB) – Cancelo has arguably been the best full-back in the Premier League this season ,and was instrumental in City’s win over Gladbach.
John Stones (CB) – After being rested in midweek, the England international is likely to be restored to the starting XI.
Ruben Dias (CB) – The signing of the season without a doubt, Dias is the leader of this unbelievably strong back line.
Oleksandr Zinchenko (LB) – The Ukrainian has made the left-back spot his own this season, and should rotate back into the side.
Rodri (DM) – The former Atletico Madrid man has grown into his role this season and it’s looking more and more that Guardiola was right all along to sign him as Fernandinho’s long term replacement.
Kevin De Bruyne (CM) – Rested against Gladbach, Guardiola has since insisted that De Bruyne is fully fit – meaning there’s no reason for him to not start.
Ilkay Gundogan (CM) – The German is City’s top goalscorer this season and stepped up while De Bruyne was injured.
Bernardo Silva (RW) – After a period of poor form, Silva has found his level again and got a goal and assist in midweek against Gladbach.
Gabriel Jesus (ST) – With West Ham’s defence greatly improved organisation wise, a focal point up front is needed -Jesus is the man to call upon right now.
Raheem Sterling (LW) – City’s best attacker, Sterling has six goals and two assists in his last ten appearances and has scored eight times against West Ham during his career.
