England full-back Lucy Bronze has been ruled out of the Lionesses’ final Euro 2022 warm-up game against Switzerland this week due to illness.

Bronze is feeling unwell and has returned home to England from a training camp in Basel as a precautionary measure. She has tested negative for Covid-19.

England’s Euro 2022 opener against Austria at Old Trafford is just a week away.

In better news, striker Ellen White has linked up with the rest of the squad in Switzerland after initially staying at home because of a positive Covid-19 test.

Although asymptomatic, the 33-year-old was unable to participate in training for a week and her participation against Switzerland remains in doubt as a result.

“We don’t take any risks,” England boss Sarina Wiegman said.

White has discovered a golden touch at major international tournaments in the last few years. She netted six times for England at the 2019 World Cup, taking home the Bronze Ball, before notching another six for Great Britain at last summer’s Olympics in Japan.

So far in their Euro 2022 preparation, England have put together back-to-back wins over Belgium and Netherlands. The 5-1 result against the latter, which saw Wiegman go up against her former team, came as a statement ahead of the tournament against the reigning champions.
