Lucas Digne’s shoulder injury is expected to keep him on the sidelines until at least the middle of May. Bertrand Traore’s involvement in the near future is also very much uncertain after pulling up with a groin problem in training.

Morgan Sanson is a doubt as he nurses a knock while an abdominal issue has kept Kortney Hause out of the matchday squad since the start of March.

US international Josh Sargent is poised to make his first appearance since March after sitting out the last four games with an ankle injury. Midfielder Lukas Rupp may not be joining him after sustaining a strain in the back of his knee in training.

The trio of Adam Idah (knee), Andrew Omobamidele (back) and Ozan Kabak (hamstring) have all been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Steven Gerrard’s side may have gone six weeks without the sweet taste of victory, but Norwich have quenched that thirst for many teams this term.

Villa haven’t been particularly impressive in front of their home fans (Burnley have a better record) but Norwich have been even more inept on the road, boasting a return of nine points from 16 away trips which only Everton can’t better.

Prediction: Aston Villa 2-0 Norwich
