5 foreign players who have scored the most goals in ISL history
The Indian Super League (ISL) is the most competitive football league in India, with all the top players from the country participating in it. The league also boasts decent foreign talent, while in recent times, it has emerged as a breeding ground for youngsters.
Here, we take a look at five overseas players who have scored the most goals in the history of the league.
Bartholomew Ogbeche is arguably the greatest foreign player in the history of the ISL, considering that he has been extremely prolific for all the clubs he has played for, while also winning the league title with two different sides.
The Nigerian is not only the all-time highest goalscorer in the league’s history, but also the record goalscorer for NorthEast United, Kerala Blasters FC and Hyderabad FC.
A two-time Golden Boot winner, Ferran Corominas was an inspired signing for FC Goa with the Spaniard scoring 48 goals in the three seasons he played for them.
Despite his excellence in front of goal, the 38-year-old decided against extending his contract with the club, and at the time he left, he was the all-time highest goalscorer in the competitions history.
Roy Krishna has been one of the best foreign players to participate in the ISL as he has been brilliant on the pitch as seen by the number of individual honours he has won so far.
The striker was key to ATK winning the 2019/20 league title while also being the top goalscorer in two editions and also winning the Golden Ball in 2020/21.
Also known as Marcelinho, the Brazilian is capable of playing on either wing or as an attacking midfielder and has starred for the likes of Delhi Dynamos, Pune City, Hyderabad, Odisha, ATK Mohun Bagan and NorthEast United during his time in India.
The 34-year-old who won the Golden Boot award in 2016, was not only a good goalscorer but also played a key role in providing assists for his fellow team-mates.
He will no doubt be a big miss for Indian football.
Iain Hume remains one of the biggest names to play in the ISL, considering that he was a regular for Leicester City between 2005 to 2008, with the Canadian playing for the likes of Keralal Blasters FC, ATK and Pune City during his time in India.
The 38-year-old scored 28 goals in the ISL, playing a key role in ATK winning the league in 2016, with the Canadian being named the „Fittest Player“ in 2015.
