The Women’s Champions League clash between Barcelona and Real Madrid at Camp Nou on Wednesday night was watched live by more than 1.8 million people.

The game set a new attendance world record for women’s football, with Barça recording the official number at 91,553 – surpassing the 90,185 fans that watched the iconic 1999 World Cup final between the United States and China at the Pasadena Rose Bowl.

But the ground-breaking online coverage provided by DAZN meant that so many more around the world were able to experience the historic match as well.

The first leg of the quarter-final tie in Madrid attracted more than 1.3m viewers, making that the most viewed single game of the competition so far this season. But the second leg saw an almost 40% rise even on that incredible number to smash the record.

Overall, DAZN viewing figures for the tie as a whole cumulatively exceeded an astonishing 3.1m.

The group stage alone in the first half of the season saw cumulative viewing figures surpass 14 million across all six matchdays, highlighting an incredible appetite from fans watching both in Europe and around the world in more than 210 countries and territories globally.
