Chelsea host Brentford in a west London derby at Stamford Bridge on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues have lost as many Premier League games as Manchester City this season (three) but are effectively consigned to nothing more than a third-place finish given the double-digit point gap to Liverpool and the Citizens.

Two wins in their last three games has provided Brentford with a reassuring eight-point buffer ahead of 18th-placed Watford.

Here’s all you need to know about the upcoming capital clash.

Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi were forced to sit out Chelsea’s FA Cup quarter-final victory over Middlesbrough ahead of the March international break with hamstring and Achilles injuries respectively. However, both have since returned to training.

Andreas Christensen missed Denmark’s two friendlies last week with a muscular issue but has also been spotted at Cobham along with the returning Spanish pairing of Saul Niguez and Kepa Arrizabalaga.

Brentford were without their new creative hub Christian Eriksen for their final game before the international break. However, the Danish midfielder returned for his country during the hiatus and may well be back in Thomas Frank’s plans this weekend.

Josh Dasilva has now completed the three-game suspension which an 11th-minute straight red card against Newcastle earned him. However, long-term absentee Julian Jeanvier is still some way short of match fitness.

Chelsea have won ten of the 16 meetings they have had with Brentford across their shared history, including seven of the past eight (D1).

Brentford’s last trip to Stamford Bridge was a 4-0 FA Cup drubbing in January 2017, and only one member of the Bees‘ entire squad was at the club for their short trip within the capital.

The last victory Brentford claimed against Chelsea came all the way back in 1939.

Against the backdrop of Roman Abramovich’s tumultuous departure, Tuchel has guided his side to six consecutive victories across all competitions.

Chelsea have scarcely looked utterly convincing for much of the season, yet have lost just one of their last 24 matches inside 90 minutes. Brentford felt the full force of their ability to eke out a victory against the run of play in the Premier League reverse fixture in October.

Whether Chelsea demonstrate the fluency their outrageous investment warrants, the Blues may well grind their way to another three points this weekend.

Prediction: Chelsea 2-0 Brentford
