Portland Timbers 1-1 Orlando City: Player ratings as penalty by Paredes cancels out Junior Urso’s goal
Orlando City held the Portland Timbers to a 1-1 draw on Sunday at Providence Park after a penalty by Cristhian Paredes canceled out an early goal by Junior Urso.
The Brazilian midfielder kicked off the scoring in the 52nd minute, going off of a pass by Alexandre Pato to manage a right footed shot from the center of the box and into the bottom corner.
But frustrations ran high after the goal, leading Josecarlos Van Rankin to commit another strong foul and earn his second yellow of the match to leave the Timbers with 10 men on the pitch.
The home side managed well, reorganizing the formation to play the remaining 25 minutes of the match.
In the final stretch, Orlando City’s Andrés Perea brought down Cristhian Paredes inside their box to concede a penalty. The Paraguayan midfielder easily buried the right footed shot into the center of the goal to get the equalizer.
The result forced Orlando City to drop to fourth on the Eastern Conference table with eight points in five games, while the Portland Timbers struggle in ninth in the Western Conference after only one victory since the 2022 MLS season started.
