Inter travel to face Genoa in Serie A as Simone Inzaghi’s side look to bounce back from successive defeats for the first time this season.

The Nerazzzurri fell two points behind city rivals Milan at the top of Serie A after a shock home defeat to Sassuolo last time out.

In fact, since returning from the brief winter break Inzaghi’s side have collected just eight points from a possible 18 in Serie A.

Genoa, meanwhile, are currently marooned in the relegation zone after dispensing with Andriy Shevchenko as manager, although they are currently unbeaten in their last four games.

Here’s everything you need to know about the clash.

Genoa will hope to welcome Mattia Bani back from a hamstring injury since the goalless draw with Roma at the start of this month.

Less certain is the fitness of veteran full back Domenico Criscito who has been unable to shake off a muscle injury over the last few weeks.

Robin Gosens could feature in the Inter squad for the first time for this weekend’s trip to Genoa, although the January arrival is likely to make his debut in the Coppa Italia semi-final clash with Milan next midweek.

Alessandro Bastoni missed out through injury last weekend, with the Italian having returned to training earlier this week.

Joaquin Correa is also inching closer to a return from the hamstring injury he sustained against Empoli prior to Christmas, although, like Gosens, this weekend could come too soon.

The Nerazzurri have won their last seven straight clashes with Genoa, scoring 25 goals without reply over those stretch of games.

Inzaghi’s side were comfortable winners in the reverse fixture at the Giuseppe Meazza back in August, which marked the beginning of the Nerazzurri’s title defence.

Inter led 2-0 inside 15 minutes thanks to goals from Milan Skriniar and Hakan Calhanoglu, before goals from Arturo Vidal and Edin Dzeko put the cherry on top of the cake late on.

Inter failed to capitalise on Milan’s slip-up against Salernitana last weekend and the Nerazzurri cannot afford to rely on team’s around them.

Inzaghi’s side have endured a wretched 2022 in Serie A and the verve which characterised their form in the first half of the campaign has evaporated in recent weeks.

However, Genoa have not tasted victory since a Coppa Italia triumph over Salernitana back in December and they should provide the perfect conditions for Inter to rediscover their winning habit.

Prediction: Genoa 0-2 Inter
