USMNT’s Gio Reyna is injured once again.

The midfielder was forced off the field in the 28th minute of Borussia Dortmund’s match against Monchengladbach on Sunday, limping into the locker room looking visibly upset.

Reyna was just coming off of a hamstring injury that he picked up while playing with the USMNT during an international window on September 3. The injury ultimately forced the midfielder to remain on the sidelines for over five months.

After 153 days away, Reyna made his return for Dortmund two weeks ago in the 5-2 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen. He replaced Thorgan Hazard in the 60th minute of the match, but looked noticeably off the pace.

Sunday marked the 19 year-old’s first start for Dortmund since August 27.

He suffered the injury during the lead up to Dortmund’s first goal and left the match shortly afterwards.

Earlier this month, head coach Marco Rose revealed his excitement at having Reyna back in action for the team. A return he claimed appeared like a ’new signing‘.

„Gio is almost like a new signing for the second half of the season,“ said Dortmund manager Marco Rose in late January as Reyna began to train with the BVB squad again.

„He had an excellent start to the season in the summer and unfortunately we missed him for a long time. We hope that he now tolerates the strain in training well.“

No official statement has been given by the club on his injury, and no recovery period has been provided.
