adidas launch official match ball for Women’s Champions League knockout stage
The 2021/22 UEFA Women’s Champions League knockout stage will be played with a new adidas match ball created especially for the competition.
With the 2022 final to be played in Turin, the design draws inspiration from the city’s mountainous backdrop and the mighty peaks of the Piedmont region as a whole.
This is the ball that will be used in the Champions League for the remainder of the season. Those games will eventually crown the winners, with the knockout stages to begin with two-legged quarter-final ties from 22 March 2022.
In an effort to shine a light on grassroots football and to inspire the next generation, adidas has invited its adidas Football Collective (aFC) community members from the Turin region to the final stage of the Women’s Champions League season where they can soak up the atmosphere.
It is only the second time the final will be played in Italy after Reggio Emilia hosted in 2016.
This season marked a first for the Women’s Champions League after the adoption of a new group stage, guaranteeing qualifiers a minimum of six games. Eight clubs will compete in the knockout stages, including holders Barcelona and WSL leaders Arsenal.
Barcelona will face Real Madrid in a Clásico tie, with the second to be played at a sold-out Camp Nou. Arsenal are to play a Wolfsburg side that dumped 2021 finalists Chelsea out of the competition, while Juventus face seven-time former winners Lyon, and PSG and Bayern Munich go head to head.
