Brighton reject second Newcastle bid for defender Dan Burn
Newcastle United have seen a second bid for centre-back Dan Burn knocked back by Brighton, 90min understands.
Eddie Howe is desperate to bring in defensive reinforcements before Monday’s transfer deadline with Newcastle having already failed in their pursuit of Sevilla star Diego Carlos.
The Magpies are busy working away on new signings and 90min revealed on Saturday that they are hopeful of making four signings before the window slams shut.
However, their frustration in their efforts to sign Brighton’s Burn goes on after the Seagulls rejected a £10m bid. A Newcastle fan who was released by the club age 11, he has emerged as a key defender at the Amex Stadium under Graham Potter, who is reluctant to see the 6ft7 man leave.
Elsewhere on Newcastle’s shortlist of centre-back targets is Spurs and Wales defender Joe Rodon. The 24-year-old has struggled to break into the Tottenham team under Antonio Conte despite their woes at the back in recent weeks.
Manchester United’s Phil Jones is another target for Newcastle, though he has been linked with a move to Ligue 1 side Bordeaux.
Meanwhile, 90min reported on Friday that Reims striker Hugo Ekitike could still move this month. Newcastle have been in discussions with the French club for a number of weeks and despite failing to agree on terms so far, communication has not totally ceased between both parties.
