Canada host the United States in Hamilton, Ontario, on Sunday in a key clash at the top of the Concacaf World Cup qualifying table.

The hosts sit top of the group after nine games and are the only remaining unbeaten team in the region following their 2-0 win away at Honduras last time out.

But the USMNT are just a single point behind and can jump to the top with a win at Tim Hortons Field. Three points for either could seal their spot at Qatar 2022, so there’s plenty on the line.

Here’s everything you need to know about the game…

Alphonso Davies and Stephan Eustaquio are out of action for this international window, but Canada coped well enough without them in Honduras with the speed of Jonathan David causing havoc on the counter.

Samuel Piette picked up a knock in the first half on Thursday and remains doubtful here.

Timothy Weah played a big part in the USMNT’s winning goal on Thursday but has reportedly not traveled to Canada and will be a big miss. Brenden Aaronson should step in for the Lille winger, but more pressure will be heaped on Christian Pulisic, who was out of sorts against El Salvador.

Jesus Ferreira played his part in the US attack on Thursday, but was wasteful in front of goal and will likely be replaced by Ricardo Pepi.

Canada have won just one of their last 21 meetings with the United States in a run going all the way back to 1985. But don’t be fooled, that one victory was just back in October 2019, while they took a 1-1 draw from the Stars and Stripes in Nashville last September.

John Herdman’s side are rising fast and Gregg Berhalter will know he has a tough task ahead of him on Sunday.

As mentioned, Canada are a quickly rising power and the United States know it. These games cannot be taken for granted anymore.

A victory for either side would be huge in their quests to return to the World Cup stage and although the USMNT are better on paper, home advantage will play a part, while the likes of Jonathan David and Cyle Larin will keep Berhalter’s defense honest.

It may be a little anticlimatic, but a draw feels like the inevitable outcome.

Prediction: Canada 1-1 United States
