Jorge Mendes insists Cristiano Ronaldo is ‚very happy‘ at Man Utd
Super-agent Jorge Mendes has insisted Cristiano Ronaldo is ‘very happy’ at Manchester United, despite the club struggling to meet expectations in the first half of the season.
Ronaldo re-joined United from Juventus at the end of the summer transfer window in what was a sensational homecoming and potentially the final piece in the jigsaw in the club’s hunt for trophies.
The 36-year-old has scored 14 times in 20 appearances for the club so far in his second spell, but poor results led to manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer getting sacked in November.
A lack of consistent chances for Jadon Sancho and injuries to Raphael Varane have also seen Ronaldo’s fellow new arrivals underperform.
Ronaldo himself was recently criticised by former teammate Gary Neville for his body language and failure to acknowledge United’s loyal match-going fans in a number of disappointing recent games.
The player, who won the first of five career Ballon d’Or awards at United the first time round, has even been labelled a problem for the club by some of his more vocal critics.
Ronaldo has appeared frustrated at times, but Mendes has declared there are no problems.
“Cristiano Ronaldo is very happy at Manchester United,” the agent told Sky Sport Italia.
“He’s going to continue with his solid, great performances as always in his career. It’s going to be a great season for him, I’m sure.”
After a woeful team performance against Newcastle, United finished 2021 with a crucial home win over Burnley on Thursday night, during which Ronaldo scored. They will begin 2022 with the visit of Wolves to Old Trafford looking to build momentum, before then hosting Aston Villa in the FA Cup.
The Champions League will resume in February when United face Atletico Madrid in the last 16.
