Salernitana 0-2 Juventus: Player ratings as Dybala & Morata score in routine win

Juventus moved up to seventh in Serie A as Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata scored in a routine victory at Salernitana on Tuesday night.

Dybala continued his good recent form by lashing in the opener from the edge of the box after exchanging passes with Dejan Kulusevski.

While the visitors dominated the first half, their intensity dropped at the start of the second and Salernitana began to press for an equaliser, going extremely close when Luca Ranieri smashed the post on the half-volley.

However, the hosts could not capitalise on their moments of superiority and were made to pay when substitute Morata tucked in from close range from Federico Bernardeschi’s deflected cross to make it 2-0 and secure the points.

There was enough time for Dybala to both miss a decent one-on-one and sky a penalty, slipping on the turf for the latter, but the points had long been sealed by that point.

Juve are now 11 points behind league leaders Napoli, who face Sassuolo on Wednesday, while Salernitana remain rooted to the bottom of the table.

Wojciech Szczesny (GK) – 6/10 – Didn’t have a save to make. A few brief scares when Salernitana pressed but was never really in danger.

Juan Cuadrado (RB) – 7/10 – Consistently found space on the right. Played some nice crosses and also made some important clearances at the back.

Matthijs de Ligt (CB) – 7/10 – Made some good interventions and brought the ball out, always using it well.

Giorgio Chiellini (CB) – 7/10 – Thought he’d bagged his side’s second, bundling in from a corner, but it was disallowed for offside. Aside from that, a typical and rugged Chiellini performance.

Luca Pellegrini (LB) – 6/10 – Showed desire to get up and down Juve’s left and whipped in some nice crosses before being replaced by Sandro.

Manuel Locatelli (CM) – 7/10 – Showed guile and played some inventive passes in midfield. Was also booked.

Rodrigo Bentancur (CM) – 7/10 – Had a good opening but just leant back too much and ballooned a shot over the bar.

Paulo Dybala (AM) – 7/10 – Fired a shot straight at Edoardo Vergani on the edge of the box early on. Made no mistake midway through the first half, smashing an unstoppable strike into the corner from a similar position. Was electric and Juve’s clear goal threat all night, though he did miss a penalty in injury time.

Dejan Kulusevski (RW) – 7/10 – Teed up Dybala nicely for the opener. Caused the Salernitana problems out wide, buzzing around with intent and playing some awesome passes.

Moise Kean (ST) – 5/10 – Moved around the frontline to look for different corners of space. Couldn’t make much of an impact and came off for Morata.

Federico Bernardeschi (LW) – 6/10 – Might struggle to claim the assist for Morata’s strike given the deflection but it was an important part played nonetheless. Was efficient.
