Two of the greatest players in Premier League history square off in the dugout this weekend as Steven Gerrard’s Aston Villa travel to face Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace.

Eberechi Eze returned to the Palace squad for the first time since suffering an Achilles tendon injury back in May in last weekend’s draw with Burnley.

However, Vieira was dealt a blow this week when it was revealed midfielder James McArthur will be out for up to six weeks with a hamstring issue.

Douglas Luiz could return to the squad this weekend for Aston Villa after missing the last month with a hamstring problem.

Elsewhere, Bertrand Traore isn’t too far away from a return, while Trezeguet is a long-term absentee.

Crystal Palace (4-2-3-1): Guaita; Ward, Andersen, Guehi, Mitchell; Milivojevic, Kouyate; Ayew, Gallagher, Zaha; Benteke

Aston Villa (4-3-3): Martinez; Cash, Konsa, Mings, Targett; Nakamba, McGinn, Ramsey; Bailey, Ings, Watkins

Matches between these two sides have been closely fought over the years, with Villa edging out the head-to-head record with 14 victories to 13 defeats.

The Villans have won three out of the last five encounters, although Palace reigned supreme in the previous meeting between these clubs at the end of last season.

2-1 down with 14 minutes remaining, the Eagles snatched victory from the jaws of defeat at Selhurst Park with goals from Wilfried Zaha and Tyrick Mitchell.

One word which can define both Gerrard and Vieira’s managerial philosophies is ’structure‘, with both coaches being renowned for their side’s defensive solidity.

Villa showed that quality in abundance last week to get the better of Brighton, and they’ll face a similar test against another side who like to dominate possession.

As a result, expect a cagey affair which could end goalless.

Prediction: Crystal Palace 0-0 Aston Villa
