More than a quarter of the 2021/22 Premier League season will be complete by the time the final whistle sounds on the final match of gameweek 10.

Only goal difference was separating Leicester and Arsenal before kick-off at the King Power Stadium, with both sides in decent form. But it was the latter who leaped ahead at the final whistle thanks to a well earned away victory.

Centre-back Gabriel handed Arsenal an early lead from a corner, which was then doubled inside the opening 20 minutes when Emile Smith Rowe coolly finished after pouncing on a loose ball.

It wasn’t all one-way traffic, however, and Aaron Ramsdale was in outstanding form to keep Leicester from getting back into game, making stunning saves to deny Kelechi Iheanacho and James Maddison in particular still in the first half.

Burnley secured their first win of the Premier League season, as well as scoring more than once in a Premier League game at Turf Moor for the first time since January.

The damage was done in the first half when Chris Wood, Matthew Lowton and Maxwel Cornet all scored for the Clarets, with Brentford off the pace and never in the contest.

The balance was a little more restored after the interval and substitute Saman Ghoddos did fire in a spectacular goal for the Bees, but scant consolation was all it was.

A week after thrashing Manchester United at Old Trafford, Liverpool were brought back to earth by Brighton, who clawed their way back from 2-0 down to draw at Anfield.

It looked like business as usual for Liverpool when Jordan Henderson put them ahead after only four minutes. it then looked like it would a be very long afternoon for the south coast visitors when Sadio Mane doubled that lead midway through the first half.

But Brighton pulled one back through a stunner from Enock Mwepu in the closing stages of the opening 45 minutes, while Leandro Trossard got the equaliser in the 65th minute. Trossard even thought he had won it in stoppage time, but his late effort was ruled out for offside.

Patrick Vieira’s Crystal Palace came close to upsetting Arsenal recently but were successful when it came to visiting another of his former clubs in Manchester City.

Wilfried Zaha gave Palace an early lead, becoming the first Palace player to score 50 top flight goals in the process. The goal came as a result of Conor Gallagher nicking possession off Aymeric Laporte, who had an altogether awful afternoon and was sent off in first half stoppage time.

City huffed and puffed in their efforts to get back into the game but ultimately fell short – Gabriel Jesus saw a would be equaliser ruled out by VAR for offside – leaving it for Palace to make sure of the statement result on the counter attack through Gallagher.

Premier League leaders Chelsea had to wait until the second half to get ahead against Newcastle at St James’ Park, with the Magpies stubbornly defending for over an hour.

Reece James got the opener when he smashed the ball home, before going on to double Chelsea’s lead with just over 10 minutes remaining. It was another powerful effort from the wing-back. The third came from the penalty sport when Newcastle goalkeeper felled Kai Havertz, with Joginho stepping up to convert.

Whether by design or limitations, Newcastle showed little to no ambition going forward.

Watford couldn’t replicate their heroics of last weekend at Goodison Park and fell to a defeat against Southampton thanks to single first half goal from Che Adams.

The Saints hadn’t won on the road this season but will be grateful of an invaluable three points here.

Watford didn’t make the most of their chances when they came, even though Saints goalkeeper Alex McCarthy was the busier of the two stoppers.

Manchester United cruised to a 3-0 win over Tottenham in north London that slightly relieved the pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and piled it even more onto Nuno Espirito Santo.

Solskjaer opted for a tactical switch, adding the fit-again Raphael Varane into a back three, with goals coming from veteran strikers Cristiano Ronaldo and Edinson Cavani. Ronaldo had another ruled out for offside, with Marcus Rashford later going on to make it 3-0.

Tottenham were poor. Harry Kane was almost non-existent and Spurs fans made their feelings known at half-time, full-time, and even when Nuno replaced Lucas Moura with Steven Bergwijn.

Norwich’s disastrous start to the season continued as they were edged out 2-1 by Leeds at Carrow Road.

The game burst into life with three goals in four second-half minutes, and was kick-started by a cracking individual goal from Raphinha. Cutting in from the right wing, the Brazilian beat three Norwich defenders before firing under Tim Krul.

The Canaries levelled through Andrew Omobamidele’s header from a corner, but fell behind again after Krul allowed Rodrigo’s shot to squirm under his body. This time, Daniel Farke’s side couldn’t respond.

West Ham’s whirlwind start to the season continued with a romping 4-1 win over a below-par Aston Villa.

The Hammers took the lead early on through Ben Johnson’s fine left-footed strike, before Villa levelled the scores just after the half an hour mark through Ollie Watkins.

Things fell apart for Villa soon after though; first Declan Rice put West Ham back in front before Ezri Konsa was sent off for a professional foul on Jarrod Bowen. Goals from Pablo Fornals and Bowen added the gloss to another extremely good performance from David Moyes‘ side, who cemented their place in the top four.

Finishing off the 10th game-week of the new season, by which time already a quarter of the 2021/22 campaign will have passed, is Everton’s trip to Wolves.

Rafa Benitez’s Toffees were humiliated by Watford in their last game, falling apart in the closing stages in a 5-2 demolition. Wolves are unlikely to inflict a repeat of that as goals have generally been lacking for Bruno Lage’s side so far this season.

Prediction: Wolves 1-1 Everton
