Cristiano Ronaldo was full of praise for Manchester United’s „unbelievable“ performance during the convincing 3-0 win over Tottenham on Saturday.

The Red Devils responded to their mounting critics with a commanding display in north London, picking off a docile Spurs side three times en route to a much-needed three points.

Ronaldo, who has been heavily criticised for his apparent lack of work rate, was at the heart of the action for United, scoring once and assisting another.

After the game, Ronaldo admitted to Sky Sports that he was delighted with United’s response to the humiliating 5-0 defeat to Liverpool – and not just for his own individual display.

„We knew before the game that we had a tough week [after] a result that we didn’t expect,“ Ronaldo told Sky Sports. „The team was a little bit under pressure, a little bit sad, but we knew that today we [could] give a good answer. We played good, we started the game very well.

„Of course my job is to help the team with my experience, my goals, my assists and I did that today and I feel so pleased with that. But in terms of the team, it was an unbelievable performance in my opinion.“

Ronaldo also spoke on the peaks and troughs of football, and revealed – perhaps unsurprisingly – that any criticism is swiftly put to one side in favour of chasing more positive performances.

„The criticisms are always there,“ Ronaldo added. „For me, it doesn’t bother me because I have played 18 years of football, so I know that one day [people will say] we are perfect and another day [they will say] we are crap.

„I know that and we have to deal with that, but it’s always better when the people praise you and they are happy with you.“

„Sometimes life is like that, sometimes we have to pass through bad moments and we have to change and we changed today.“

The games continue to come thick and fast for United in the coming week; Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side first travel to Atalanta in the Champions League on Tuesday, before entertaining neighbourhood rivals Manchester City in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off.
