Southampton predicted lineup vs Chelsea – Premier League
Southampton’s hunt for their first victory of the season continues on Saturday when they travel to Stamford Bridge to face Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea.
Positive results haven’t come easy for the Saints, who have been far better than their Premier League record might suggest, but Ralph Hasenhuttl will know that promising performances can only get you so far.
Here’s how the boss could line up his team.
Alex McCarthy (GK) – McCarthy’s run of clean sheets came to an end against Wolves so he’ll be keen to get things back on track.
Tino Livramento (RB) – Has been excellent this season, though weirdly Southampton won’t want him to standout too much here – because Chelsea have a buy-back clause…
Jan Bednarek (CB) – In for the injured Jack Stephens, Bednarek has had the edge over new signing Lyanco so far this year.
Mohammed Salisu (CB) – Salisu has ensured Jannik Vestergaard’s departure has not been felt at all. Some really impressive showings.
Kyle Walker-Peters (LB) – He’s not a natural left-back, but Walker-Peters could continue to get the nod over summer signing Romain Perraud.
Mohamed Elyounoussi (RM) – Hasn’t scored in his last three games but will likely keep his place as Stuart Armstrong remains out.
James Ward-Prowse (CM) – Club captain Ward-Prowse is among the first names on the team sheet.
Oriol Romeu (CM) – Described by Pep Guardiola as one of the most underrated midfielders in the league, Romeu will want a statement performance against his former side.
Moussa Djenepo (LM) – Djenepo has been out of the squad for the past two games but is likely to make his return here.
Che Adams (ST) – Armando Broja is ineligible against his parent side but was unlikely to start anyway, with Adams expected to retain his place.
Adam Armstrong (ST) – Without a goal since his debut strike against Everton, Armstrong is searching for his shooting boots again.
