Manchester United vs Villarreal: TV channel, live stream, team news & prediction
Manchester United host Villarreal on Wednesday in the first home game of their 2021/22 Champions League campaign.
The tie is a repeat of last season’s Europa League final, which the Yellow Submarine won on penalties. The La Liga side will be hoping to spring a shock again and pile further misery on United, who were stunned by Young Boys on matchday one.
Here is everything you need to know ahead of the clash…

Where is the match being played? Old Trafford, Manchester
What TV channel is it on? BT Sport (UK), Paramount+ (US), DAZN (Canada)
Referee? Felix Zwayer

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is sweating over the fitness of both Luke Shaw and Harry Maguire after both were forced off during their 1-0 defeat to Aston Villa last time out, while fellow defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka is suspended too.
Marcus Rashford is nearing a return from shoulder surgery, but this one comes slightly too soon. Amad Diallo remains out, not that he would have been likely to feature anyway.
Francis Coquelin will sit this one out after being dismissed in his side’s last Champions League game against Atalanta.
Star striker Gerard Moreno is also not available for Villarreal, while there are serious doubts over the availability of Dani Raba, Samuel Chukwueze and Juan Foyth – who was taken off against Real Madrid last time out.
Man Utd: De Gea; Dalot, Lindelof, Varane, Telles; McTominay, Fred; Sancho, Fernandes, Pogba; Ronaldo
Villarreal: Rulli; Gaspar, Albiol, Torres, Alfonso; Parejo, Capoue, Trigueros; Pino, Alcacer, Groeneveld
Incredibly, during five previous meetings between these sides only two goals have been scored.
Both of them came the last time the pair faced off in the 2021 Europa League final, a game Villarreal won on penalties with each side netting in extra time after the scores were level after 90 minutes.
The four other meetings between the pair – all in the Champions League group stages – have ended goalless. Maybe not one for the neutrals, then.
Villarreal are draw specialists, sharing the spoils in five of their first six La Liga games this season. Meanwhile, United could come into this one weakened, with the absences of mainstays Maguire and Shaw likely to be harshly felt.
The away side will look to frustrate Solskjaer’s charges from the outset and we think they could have some success. United’s problems at the back may also allow them to grab a goal.
Prediction: Manchester United 1-1 Villarreal
