England will hope to put the ugly scenes from their 4-0 win over Hungary behind them when Andorra come to town on Sunday.

Goals from Raheem Sterling, Harry Kane, Harry Maguire and Declan Rice secured a comfortable three points for the Three Lions last time out, but the occasion was marred by abhorrent scenes of racist abuse from a section of the Hungarian supporters throughout the game.

Despite the challenging atmosphere, England managed to keep their perfect start to World Cup qualifying intact, and they will hope to extend that run against an Andorra side whose recent win over San Marino was their first victory since October 2019 – and only the fourth in their history.

Gareth Southgate’s decision to wait until the 84th minute of the Hungary game to start making changes suggests he’s planning some significant rotation here, with a number of fringe players likely to get a run out.

The boss will hope to have his whole squad available for selection, but doubts remain over the fitness of Manchester United winger Jadon Sancho, who missed the Hungary match with a knock.

Both Marc Pujol and Jordi Alaez picked up yellow cards against San Marino and will miss this one through suspension as a result.

As well as shaking up the personnel, expect manager Koldo Alvarez to change his system as well. He went for a 4-4-2 against San Marino but will likely revert to his favoured 5-4-1 as they prepare to fight for their lives against England.

These two teams have met just four times in the past, and unsurprisingly, it’s been a complete white wash in England’s favour.

Their last meeting came in a World Cup qualifier back in June 2009, when a very strong England side roared to a 6-0 win courtesy of goals from Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard, Jermain Defoe and the worst Peter Crouch strike you’ve ever seen.

That was England’s biggest win over Andorra, with the other games ending 2-0, 3-0 and 5-0.

The gulf in class between these two nations is no secret. England could hardly be bigger favourites if they tried.

Southgate will use this match as a glorified friendly and give his fringe players the chance to prove themselves, while also allowing his stars to rest ahead of the Poland game, but England will still be expecting to put five or six past Andorra.

It’s going to be a real backs-to-the-wall affair for Andorra, who will be well aware that anything other than a complete mauling would be viewed as a positive result.
