Crystal Palace agree fee with Celtic for Odsonne Edouard
Crystal Palace have agreed a £15m fee with Celtic for the transfer of striker Odsonne Edouard.
The Frenchman has been linked with a move away from Scotland for the past few years due to his impressive performances. He has scored 66 goals in the Scottish Premiership in just over four seasons, playing a key role in three title wins for the Bhoys.
Palace have been searching for a new striker throughout the transfer window and had previously eyed up Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah, though they couldn’t reach an agreement with the north London club.
Instead, they turned to Edouard and the Telegraph’s John Percy has revealed a fee of £15m has been agreed, with a medical scheduled for Tuesday morning.
Edouard has scored two league goals for Celtic this season. Ange Postecoglou’s have made a strange start to the league season, winning only two of their four games but clocking up a goal difference of plus ten.
Palace have been very active during the transfer window, in part due to the amount of players who left following the expiry of their contracts. Michael Olise, Marc Guehi, Joachim Andersen and Will Hughes have all signed on permanently, while Conor Gallagher has also been loaned to the club by Chelsea.
Their performances in the Premier League have been somewhat mixed so far, losing at Chelsea before picking up draws with Brentford and West Ham. The latter was particularly impressive as Gallagher scored twice to earn his side a point against an in form Hammers side.
The signing of Edouard will give new manager Patrick Vieira more options up front. Christian Benteke put a poor run of form behind him last season by ending the campaign with ten league goals, but the Belgian has previously struggled in front of goal and Wilfried Zaha has often had to take on the goalscoring burden with smaller contributions from the likes of Jordan Ayew.
