Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe have both been named in Paris Saint-Germain’s squad to face Reims on Sunday evening, with the world waiting to see the first glimpse of the Argentine in his new colours.

The former Barcelona superstar has yet to feature for the French giants since leaving Camp Nou, while Mbappe’s future at the club is uncertain given his very public demands to be sold to Real Madrid.

But supporters‘ interest will have peaked on Sunday morning when PSG confirmed that the superstar duo had both been included in the squad travelling to Reims for the evening clash.

We could be set to witness Messi’s first touches of a ball in PSG colours after he left cash-strapped Barça and signed a lucrative £1m-a-week contract with the French outfit earlier in August. His debut was delayed however, after needing time to recover from his Copa America heroics with Argentina in the summer.

He has been training with the rest of the team over the past two weeks and is now in contention to make his first appearance, either off the bench or starting from the first minute.

It will be interesting to see the sort of reception Mbappe receives on Sunday, after his name was already booed prior to PSG’s 4-2 victory over Strasbourg on the second weekend of the season.

The Frenchman is determined to leave Paris this summer and Madrid have launched two huge bids to sign the World Cup winner, despite the fact they can recruit him for free next season. The 22-year-old’s contract expires in the summer of 2022 and he has made it clear that he has no intention of extending his deal in the French capital.

PSG have received an offer of €180m for Mbappe and they had promised the forward they would accept the bid, although Madrid have yet to hear back from Les Parisiens.

The club have certainly made a statement of intent by naming him in the matchday squad, too, demonstrating that for the time being, he remains a PSG player.
