Bayern Munich have reached an agreement to sign RB Leipzig midfielder Marcel Sabitzer this summer.

The 27-year-old has entered the final year of his contract at the Red Bull Arena, and once Bayern registered their interest in him, Sabitzer made it clear that he wanted to be granted his wish of joining the team he supported as a child.

An agreement on personal terms with Sabitzer has been on the table for a while now, and according to Sport Bild, the two teams have now finally found a middle ground on a transfer fee.

Bayern and Leipzig held talks over the past 48 hours and agreed on a fee of around €16m (£13.7m), and things are now expected to speed up before the transfer window closes.

For Sabitzer, not only is this a chance to play for the team he supported as a child, but the Austrian will also be reunited with former Leipzig boss Julian Nagelsmann, who took over at the Allianz Arena this summer.

It was under Nagelsmann that Sabitzer enjoyed the best season of his career. The 2019/20 campaign yielded 16 goals and 11 assists in all competitions for the Austrian, who followed that up with nine and seven in 2020/21.

Sabitzer is now set to become the fourth signing of the Nagelsmann era, following fellow Leipzig man Dayot Upamecano and free transfers Omar Richards and Sven Ulreich in sealing moves to the German champions.

The Austrian will offer more competition to Leon Goretzka, Joshua Kimmich and Corentin Tolisso at the base of Bayern’s midfield, while also providing cover in more advanced roles when needed as well.

Both Goretzka and Tolisso have entered the final years of their contracts at the club, but talks over extensions have gone in drastically different directions.

Goretzka is understood to have verbally agreed to a new five-year contract, but Tolisso has been tipped to let his deal run down and walk away for free next year.
