Bayern Munich 5-0 Hertha Berlin: Player ratings as Robert Lewandowski bags a hat-trick

Business

Bayern Munich’s searing start to the new season continued on Saturday, with a 5-0 victory over Hertha Berlin at the Allianz Arena.

It took just two minutes for Munich to take the lead, as Thomas Müller finished from close range.

Robert Lewandowski doubled the score with a header from close range, before Jamal Musiala made it 3-1 at the start of the second half. Lewandowski added another two to Bayern’s tally in the second half to score his billionth (roughly) hat-trick of his career.

If things couldn’t get any better, Saturday’s result also means that Bayern set a new record for goals in consecutive games among teams playing in Europe’s top five leagues, per UEFA coefficient.

Now, let’s get to the player ratings…

Manuel Neuer (GK) 6/10 – Apart from one or two straight-forward saves, the goalkeeper had very little to do on Saturday.

Josip Stanišić (RB) 7/10 – The full-back’s forward runs were crucial in Bayern overrunning Hertha in the final third.

Niklas Süle (CB) 5/10 – The defender struggled with Hertha’s long balls early on, but soon adapted to the pace of the game.

Dayot Upamecano (CB) 6/10 – All things considered, the centre back had very little to do against a rather hapless Hertha attack.

Alphonso Davies (LB) 7/10 – The Canadian was electric for Bayern, and was rewarded for his runs in the box by assisting the first goal.

Joshua Kimmich (CM) 8/10 – His set piece delivery was like a needle through thread. An astonishingly brilliant footballer.

Leon Goretzka (CM) 7/10 – While the rest of the team was dogmatic in attack, the Goretzka was comfortable picking up the ball and recycling it when necessary.

Thomas Müller (CAM) 8/10 – The midfielder got his first goal of the season on Saturday after knocking in a pass from Davies. After that he was a constant menace to Hertha, as he pulled them wide and created space for the rest of Bayern’s attack.

Jamal Musiala (RW) 7/10 – The winger came alive in the second half with his excellent finish in the 49th minute. Apart from the goal, he had a quiet afternoon at the Allianz Arena.

Robert Lewandowski (ST) 10/10 – Another hat-trick for the superstar striker. What more needs to be said?

Serge Gnabry (LW) 7/10 – The winger plagued Hertha out wide with his close control and dribbling abilities.

Tanguy Nianzou (CB) 6/10 – The substitute was brought on in the second half but had to do very little as Bayern dominated.

Leroy Sane (RW) 7/10 – The quick footed winger looked comfortable out wide for Bayern, and he did well to create the Bavarians fourth goal.

Kingsley Coman (LW) 6/10 – Despite some good movement, the winger never really threatened Hertha.
