Tajon Buchanan explains his move to Club Brugge and remaining ambitions as he finishes the 2021 Major League Soccer season with the New England Revolution

The widely sought after winger kicked off his MLS career in 2019 with the Revolution and quickly rose to become a vital component of the team’s success. Buchanan has recorded eight goals and eight assists in 50 appearances for the club.

The player was linked to a variety of European clubs throughout the transfer window before signing with Club Brugge for $7m.

“I’ve thought about this for months, to be honest. It wasn’t just a week or two decision,“ the 22-year-old forward told media on Friday. „I’ve been thinking about my future for a very long time. Since the beginning, Club Brugge has felt like a family I wanted to join.“

Club Brugge is set to play in the upcoming Champions League season in Group A against Manchester City, Paris Saint-Germain and RB Leipzig.

“Brugge is known for developing young players and moving them on to even bigger clubs and Brugge is also in the [UEFA] Champions League,“ head coach and sporting director Bruce Arena said. „So when he goes there in January, he’ll be stepping into a team that’s in the Champions League and that’s a great opportunity for a young player like Tajon. And I think the Belgian League is a nice fit for him as well. And if he can get acclimated into that league, you never know where he’s headed next.

Before his official departure in the winter, Buchanan wants to leave the New England Revolution with trophies.

“I’m trying to win everything,“ Buchanan said. „Supporters’ Shield, Eastern Conference and MLS Cup. We have the talent, we have the fight in this group to do that.”

The Major League Soccer side currently leads the Eastern Conference table, 15 points clear from second place Orlando City.
