England and Manchester United central defender Harry Maguire is confident that he will be ready to face Croatia in his nation’s opening Euro 2020 fixture on June 13.

The 28-year old sustained ankle ligament damage in a Premier League tie with Aston Villa earlier this month and has been absent ever since – most recently missing the Red Devils‘ Europa League final defeat to Villarreal, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer claiming ‚he wasn’t ready‘ for the game.

And after missing United’s final five matches of the season, the Daily Mail report that Maguire was back in Carrington on Friday for treatment and will receive more care at the club’s training facilities on Monday while also continuing rehabilitation at home.

Although England manager Gareth Southgate claimed he was left in the dark over the central defender’s situation, it is believed that Manchester United physios are reporting back to their counterparts in the England camp as Maguire pushes to be back to full fitness before the Three Lions face Croatia.

Southgate will be hoping more than anyone that the United captain does get back to match fitness by then. The 50-year old gave Maguire his international debut back in 2017 and has since given him 32 caps, making him the foundation of his backline.

Maguire also represents half of a solid partnership with John Stones, whose fantastic season with Manchester City has got England fans excited about the strength of their team’s defence. And with the United man’s leadership and experience, the Maguire will be a crucial part of the Three Lions‘ side at this summer’s European Championships – if fit.
