Manchester City midfielder Kevin De Bruyne has suggested that everyone at the club will feel like ‚failures‘ if they don’t lift the Champions League trophy on Saturday evening.

The Belgian superstar has been a driving force in a brilliant City side who have already claimed a third Premier League crown in four seasons, a fourth successive League Cup, and can make it a treble with Champions League final triumph – something that has so far agonisingly eluded the club.

De Bruyne was integral to his side’s semi final success over Paris Saint-Germain. The Cityzens eventually ran out 4-1 aggregate winners to reach their first ever Champions League final, with the Belgian equalising in the first leg.

And although reaching the final of Europe’s elite club competition is a fantastic achievement, De Bruyne, as reported by the Mirror, still admits it would not sit well at all to lose against Chelsea on Saturday night.

„As players, we understand the magnitude of the game. If you win, you’re a hero and if you lose, you’re almost a failure, even if you’re not a failure because getting to this stage is incredibly well done by the team and an individual,“ the 29-year old said. „But if you don’t win, it will be something you don’t really want to experience.

„It’s been one of the goals of the club and to perform on the highest stage in the world is something of a privilege,“ he continued. „I think everybody understands the pressure that it has but at least we can enjoy this game. We should take it with a smile and take it as something where you want to perform and show your best.”

It won’t be an easy task, of course. Pep Guardiola’s men face Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea, who have triumphed over the Cityzens on two occasions since mid-April.
