PSG become first European club to open permanent US retail store
Paris Saint-Germain have become the first European football club to open a permanent retail store in the United States, with this and other planned openings in key international markets the result of a ten-year partnership with sports merchandise giant Fanatics.
No other European team has its own physical retail presence in the United States, but PSG will now have an official club store in the Westfield Century City Mall in Los Angeles, California.
Fanatics part-owns US sporting retail giant Lids and will tap into the brand’s expertise in physical retail to provide shoppers at the PSG store with an ‘immersive, unrivalled shopping opportunity’.
It will stock the ‘broadest’ choice of PSG merchandise ever previously offered in any American store, including the full range of Nike and Jordan teamwear. The newly launched 2021/22 home jersey is the first primary PSG shirt designed by the Jordan brand, taking direct inspiration from the Chicago Bulls uniforms worn by basketball icon Michael Jordan.
LA-inspired PSG designs will also be exclusively available at the new location.
“We are very happy to be back in the City of Angels where we had such a fantastic tour with the team in 2016 and where we have amazing fans of our brand,” said Fabien Allegre, PSG’s Brand Diversification Director.
“During the past year, our business has grown by 49% and international markets now represent 86%. North America has become our second largest market, with an 11% share, and our latest collections have had a great success here.
“Our popularity is growing steadily, as the number of followers on social media develops at a fast pace, the number of viewers for our games beats records and the opening of fan clubs and PSG Academy sites, show. Since our deal with Fanatics, both the interest in Paris Saint-Germain and our sales have increased. We are just beginning a new era of growth and development.”
