Manchester United fans are expected to gather outside Old Trafford in their thousands ahead of their Premier League fixture with Liverpool on Sunday.

United were among the six Premier League clubs who signed up to the breakaway Super League before, like every other side, the Red Devils pulled out after a fierce backlash from fans up and down the country.

While we appear to be safe from the controversial Super League, for now, the anger towards those involved in the plans hasn’t gone away. Approximately 10,000 supporters are expected to make their way to Old Trafford and make their feelings known to the club’s hierarchy.

That’s a significantly higher figure than the number of United fans who protested against the Glazer family’s ownership of the club a week previously, but it’s not something that concerns Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Solskjaer said it’s important for the club to listen to the concerns of supporters, even though he’ll be fully focused on preparing his side to take on Jurgen Klopp’s charges.

“It’s important that the fans’ views are listened to and that we communicate better,“ Solskjaer said. “My job is to focus on the football side and that we have the best possible team.

“As I’ve said before, I’ve been backed, I’ve had great support from the club and the owners and I’m sure I will get the backing again to go one step further. But I’m so happy that all the clubs agreed that this shouldn’t be the way of moving forward.

“Then again, when the protests are on, it’s important that they go in a good fashion and that we keep it peaceful.”

United’s supporters are not alone in demonstrating against their club’s role in the Super League. Protests were held outside Chelsea‘s Stamford Bridge,Tottenham’s self named stadium and Arsenal’s Emirates Stadium over the past couple of weeks, as well as at Anfield last Saturday ahead of Liverpool’s 1-1 draw with Newcastle.

An online fans‘ forum has also been held with outgoing United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward, while Arsenal conducted a similar meeting when Josh Kroenke – son of owner, Stan – fronted up to angry supporter groups.
