Paris Saint-Germain have revealed Kylian Mbappe has picked up a calf injury, meaning he could be unavailable for their Champions League second leg with Manchester City next week.

The Frenchman has been in outstanding for this season, netting 25 goals in 29 appearances in Ligue 1 as Les Parisiens look to defend their French title.

Despite being crowned champions of France in seven of the last eight seasons, their dominance of the top tier is under threat this season with Lille providing stuff competition.

Christophe Galtier’s side are currently a point ahead of PSG with just four games of the season to play, and the champions have suffered a huge blow following the news talisman Mbappe has picked up a calf injury.

PSG took to their official website to announce the news, though they offered little in the way of a timeframe for how long the World Cup winner looks like spending on the sidelines, simply writing, „Kylian Mbappe: right calf injury.“

They also revealed backup goalkeeper Alexandre Letellier has undergone a successful operation on his right hand and is expected back in four weeks, while Juan Bernat is continuing his fight to regain match sharpness.

The news of Mbappe’s injury will be a massive blow to Mauricio Pochettino with his side in desperate need of three points when they host Lens on Saturday.

However, possibly even more worrying is the prospect of his side trying to overturn their one-goal deficit in the second leg of their Champions League semi-final with Manchester City without the forward.

Goals from Kevin De Bruyne and Riyad Mahrez secured Pep Guardiola a 2-1 first-leg lead at the Parc des Princes last Wednesday, despite Marquinhos‘ first-half header handing the home side the lead.

The PSG medical staff will now be working furiously in their bid to have Mbappe ready for next Tuesday’s second leg at the Etihad Stadium.
