Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that Harvey Barnes will miss the rest of the season as he requires further knee surgery.

The England international suffered the injury during a home defeat to Arsenal at the end of February and required surgery following damage to his patella tendon. Post-match, Rodgers revealed the player was expected to be ruled out for six weeks, but he is yet to return to outdoor training.

Now, the Foxes manager has issued a further update on the situation, confirming that the England international will not play again before the end of the campaign.

„He’s had a slight setback. He’s just gone in to have a second minor operation to clear up some of the damage in his knee. That will rule him out for the rest of the season. The plan is to get him fit for pre-season,“ Rodgers said prior to his side’s meeting with Southampton (via Leicestershire Live).

Barnes has enjoyed a successful season, scoring 13 goals and providing four assists in 35 appearances. He was one of Leicester’s most consistent performers and was even mentioned as having an outside chance of making the England squad for Euro 2020.

Leicester currently sit third in the Premier League and will be hoping to qualify for next season’s Champions League after just falling short last year. West Ham in fifth are seven points adrift of the Foxes and although there is still plenty of football to be played, a place in Europe’s premier competition is very much Leicester’s to throw away.

Barnes will also miss out on the FA Cup final which Leicester reached courtesy of a 1-0 victory over Southampton. Their opponents at Wembley are Chelsea who shocked Manchester City in their semi-final. The Blues are chasing an FA Cup and Champions League double this season.
