Tanguy Ndombele reveals talks with Kylian Mbappe over PSG move
Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tanguy Ndombele has confessed he held regular conversations with Kylian Mbappe over a move to Paris Saint-Germain earlier in his career.
Ndombele was first linked with the French giants during his breakthrough season with Lyon in 2017/18, while the rumours resurfaced last summer after Ndombele’s tricky debut season with Spurs.
Telefoot did their best to try reignite the rumours in an interview with Ndombele, and the Frenchman refused to close the door to a potential return to Paris in the future.
„I’m a boy from the Paris region. Will I wear the Paris shirt one day? Why not – but today I’m in Tottenham, and it’s going well,“ he said.
„I spoke with Kylian about possibly coming to PSG. Two or three years in a row we discussed it. It didn’t happen and today at Tottenham it’s going well, but why not in the future?“
Ndombele also offered up a voice recording from Mbappe, who said: „I hope to play with you again as soon as possible.“
The chances of Spurs selling Ndombele in the near future appear slim. After a tricky debut season, the 24-year-old has found his footing in the Premier League and blossomed into one of Jose Mourinho’s most-important players.
However, things weren’t always so rosy. Clashes with Mourinho during his first year in England took their toll on Ndombele, who confessed that he considered trying to leave the club because of his struggles.
„My first season was tough, I questioned myself a lot, now the page is turned,“ he added. „It is true that at a certain moment I wanted to leave, I didn’t feel in the right place. I told them I wanted out. They didn’t want me to go.
„At the beginning it was going very well. After there were injuries, and we [he & Mourinho] went to war. Well, not really war because he is the coach, I respect him. I have a strong character, and he may have a stronger one than me.“
