Diogo Jota injury update: Availability for Liverpool vs Bologna confirmed
Arne Slot has confirmed that Diogo Jota will be available to feature against Bologna at Anfield in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.
The Portugal international has been an integral part of Slot’s plans since the Dutchman replaced Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, with Jota starting five of the six Premier League games thus far in 2024/25.
However, while fellow first-choice forwards Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz have been in superb form under Slot, Jota has taken a while to really get going.
After netting on the first day of the season against Ipswich, Jota endured a barren spell in front of goal until he scored a brace against West Ham in the Carabao Cup. He then bagged an assist in the crucial 2-1 win over Wolves.
Since that win at Molineux, Jota has been struggling with an apparent injury, missing two training sessions and receiving a scan to detail the extent of any ailment.
Speaking ahead of Liverpool’s Champions League clash with Serie A outfit Bologna, Slot confirmed that the scan didn’t reveal any major issues and that Jota should be available to feature on Wednesday.
“Diogo missed out on two sessions after the game against Wolves,” Slot said. “He took a knock. I’m expecting him to be with us tomorrow [Wednesday]. He should be available to play.”
Regardless of Jota’s injury, it was widely expected that Slot would rotate his forward line for the midweek game – as he has done throughout his first few months in charge.
Cody Gakpo will likely start for the Reds, having impressed when given opportunities in cup competitions thus far, while Darwin Nunez will also be keen to feature from the off too.
