Real Madrid’s best and worst players in fiery 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid

Business

As expected, the Madrid derby was a fiery affair at the Estadio Civitas Metropolitano on Sunday.

Real Madrid took the lead against their inner-city rivals in the 68th minute thanks to a deflected Eder Militao effort, before Atleti would salvage a point with a 95th minute goal from Angel Correa.

In the aftermath of that equaliser, tempers flared in the stadium (to say the very least), with projectiles being thrown at goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and Marcos Llorente earning a red card for a nasty challenge on Fran Garcia.

Here’s Real Madrid’s best and worst players in the draw, according to 90min’s player ratings.

Vinicius Junior: 7/10

Vinicius Junior showed off rather incredible mental fortitude to block out the vile racist abuse thrown at him by Atletico Madrid fans to put in a pretty damn good performance on Sunday.

The Ballon d’Or favourite was a constant threat in the final third with his direct running and quality delivery, setting up Militao’s goal, and also a big help defensively too as he won a surprising eight duels during the game.

Honourable mention

Eder Militao: 7/10

For the first time since April 2023, and since his ACL injury, Eder Militao netted in La Liga.

The defender showed off some class to bring the ball down before volleying it goalward – earning luck of a deflection to make it 1-0 to Los Blancos.

The defender didn’t cover himself in glory for the equaliser, but overall he put in a decent performance.

Rodrygo Goes: 6/10

As you can tell by the ratings, no one played particularly badly for Madrid at the Estadio Civitas Metropolitano.

Despite being the ‚worst player‘ for Madrid in the game, Rodrygo did have a few bright moments and created two chances for his teammates.

He was, however, perhaps muscled out of possession on a few too many occasions – losing seven duels in total.
