Rodri injury confirmed by Man City with key detail missing
Manchester City have confirmed Rodri picked up a knee ligament injury in Sunday’s 2-2 draw at home to Arsenal, but did not say whether his ACL was torn or when he will be able to return.
Rodri went down early on in this weekend’s heated stalemate at the Etihad Stadium clutching his knee and writhing in agony. He was at least able to walk off the pitch slightly aided but signs suggested the problem was serious.
Reports this week have claimed he will miss the rest of the season with an ACL tear. However, Pep Guardiola confirmed on Tuesday that there was hope he could be back sooner than expected.
And on Wednesday morning, City released an official update on Rodri which did not include the final prognosis.
A statement read: „Manchester City FC can confirm that Rodri has suffered a ligament injury to his right knee. The injury was sustained during the first half of this weekend’s 2-2 draw with Arsenal in the Premier League.
„The midfielder travelled to Spain to seek specialist consultation this week, following initial tests in Manchester.
„Assessment remains ongoing to ascertain the full extent of the injury and expected prognosis.
„Everyone at the Club wishes him a speedy recovery and mancity.com will bring you regular updates regarding his rehabilitation.“
Rodri’s knee issue came only days after he hit out at the congested footballing calendar putting players at risk of serious injury and claimed they could go on strike to resolve the problem.
„I think we are close to [striking],“ he said last week.
„If it keeps this way, it will be a moment that we have no other option, but let’s see.“
